DKNY EYE

Brand details
Since its inception in 1989, DKNY has been synonymous with New York, inspired by the energy and attitude of the city. Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Ralph Lauren all became so globally successful. Karan's mother had been a model and her father was a tailor and haberdasher. In 1968, Karan was accepted into the highly respected Parsons School of Design in New York City. While in school, Karan landed a prestigious summer job working for designer Anne Klein. Karan was appointed chief designer with Louis Dell'Olio at Anne Klein, after Klein's death. Responding and reacting to real needs—needs she knew because they were also her own, Karan launched Seven Easy Pieces with her first collection in 1984—and revolutionized the way women dress. In 1984, Karan left Anne Klein and started her own business DKNY. As Donna's own life evolved, she was confronted with a new demand: a teenage daughter raiding her closet. And so came the next generation New Yorker: DKNY.
