HARLAN

Brand details

William Harlan, founder of Harlan Estate, set out on a sloping hillside in Oakville after scouring Napa for over 20 years with the goal of making “California’s First Growth wines.”

He meticulously studied the vineyard, planting Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot on a rough, well-drained volcanic soil that accounts for one-tenth of the total area. The concentrated fruit, obtained by limiting yields per unit area to very low levels, was carefully selected and blended into a Bordeaux-style blend by top winemaker Robert Levy and renowned wine consultant Michel Rolland, creating the 1990 vintage.
With less than 20,000 bottles produced each year, it is highly praised for its exceptional rarity and is praised for its rich, complex character without losing elegance and delicacy.
Robert Parker awarded it eight 100-point awards and praised it as “the most deeply flavored wine not just in California, but in the world.”
