In 1758, Jose Antonio Cuelvo received land ownership to plant agave from King Fernando VI, and later his descendant Jose María began producing and distributing the first tequila. As tequila became a global trend, Jose Cuelvo began exporting to the world, including the United States, and quickly emerged as Mexico's national drink.
